Why are beeswax candles so great? I know they're clean burning. Supposedly they emit negative ions, which purify the air in some way. What does this mean? I've never heard of negative ions in any other context, so is there a scientific explanation behind them?

OK, yesterday I was changing radio stations and on the way to the one I wanted I hit one of the local talk radio shows. I paused to listen because while I regularly disagree with this person he/she (no clues; sorry) also does some very good charity work on their own time. All my life, when we had expired pills, my mother has flushed them down the toilet.* Is this as bad of an idea as I think it might be? I'm not sure of the filtration process of sewer water, but surely some of the medicine can make it through, right?
